The Peace Book
What the lesson was about:
- I began the ERC lesson by reading "The Peace Book" by Todd Parr to the Grade 1s.
- As a class we discussed what Remembrance Day was. I decided to focus on the idea of peace.
-At the end of the lesson students were able to communicate in their own words what peace meant to them.
-As a class we created a our own "Peace Book."
What worked well in the lesson:
-Students were able to relate to the book that was read. They really enjoyed the colourful illustrations portrayed by Parr.
-I was impressed with the students' creativity in producing the "Peace Book."
What did I learn/ What I would change?
-Students had a difficult time writing a sentence on their own. I should have brainstormed a bit more so that the writing process could have gone a little smoother.
In this ERC lesson, I've developed the Professional Competencies 1, 2, and 8.
